We’ve allocated a ‘strength’ rating with each wax.
What is Moustache Wax?
Would you like the look of a prim and proper moustache? Tired of it falling into your mouth? Then my fine moustache’d fellow, you will want to give your tash a try at one of these fine waxes.
These moustache waxes are designed to give you a prominent and durable hold of your hairs above your lip to give them an edge and keep them in place. You will see from the selection above that most use whole natural and organic ingredients, the likes of beeswax, butters blended with carrier oils and essential oils. Some of the superior hold waxes to offer it that strength do contain petroleum however.
How Does Moustache Wax Work?
It’s basically a styling product and acts like an aid that will offer you exceptional hold for your moustache and you can style which it how you like, whether you want to go for a classic handlebar or a full on fu manchu. It will also give you a slight shine and matte type look (depending on the wax used) to give it a more textured and dapper finish.
Although they are mainly about styling and offering you the hold so you can maintain that style right throughout the day. We’ve stocked the more ‘premium’ end moustache waxes which either offer exceptional hold or have additional aspects to strengthen your stache, which is increasingly more important as the moustache grows out longer
What Makes these Moustache Waxes ‘Particularly’ Good?
A bog standard wax will simply just hold your hairs on place, however we only stock the “good stuff” so you know with these premium waxes they will have a few extra benefits: from keeping you smelling good with conditioning effects too (that said, not to the same extent a beard balm or beard oil can, so you should still use those in addition to).
For those with particularly unruly beards (and generally the longer your beard grows out) the stronger the stache wax you are going to need, ones such as the Captain Expedition Strength offer that extra firm hold. We’ve rated on each of the product pages how strong and durable each mustache wax is you get a better feel as to what you are getting.
How to Use Moustache Wax the Right Way
When it comes to using moustache wax, the main thing is getting it into a workable state beforehand. Often, new beardsman find it difficult to work with because they haven’t heated up enough first (especially with the stronger holding waxes).
A quick tip: leave the wax in your pocket for 10 to 20 minutes before you plan on applying it. This will work to warm up the wax and make it easier for when you scrape it out, rub it between your finger tips and palms to then work it into your moustache. Start from the middle and stroke to either side, depending on the style you are going for.
We certainly recommend investing in a moustache comb if you haven’t got one already, this will help to not only distribute the wax nicely throughout the moustache but just makes everything easier to manage and gives a neater look too.
Picking the right Wax for You and Your Stache
You will have the best sense of your stache, if you’ve got a particularly wild and unruly moustache, then you will perhaps want to look for a stronger wax that will offer you more hold and strength. If it’s quite tame anyway and you are just looking for the finishing style points and are after something that’s easier to work with than a mild strength will do you right too.
You will notice that some come in different scents as well and different shades that can be matched to your beard colour type for a slightly more natural looking finish. What you might find though, particularly with stronger moustache waxes is that there is a buildup of residue, so it’s important to wash it out when you have a shower or just before you go to bed. Then following it up with some beard oil would be a good idea too, to ensure it’s properly conditioned.
