What is Beard Oil?

Essentially all beard oil is a special concoction of carrier oils such as Jojoba, Argan, Sweet Almond (that are there to condition and moisturise) mixed in with essential oils to specially cater for your beard and the underlying foundation to that your skin too.

In essence, it’s there to keep your beard looking and feeling healthy. It will provide much needed moisture to your beard hair preventing it from turning rough, brittle and prone to breaking - instead it will be shiny, soft and supple.

What Does Beard Oil Do & How’s it Good for My Beard?

Do you want to end your beard itch? Had enough of rough and scruffy beard? Just want your beard feeling ohhh so soft n’ supple? Then my facial haired fellow, a good quality beard oil is just what you need.

  • Encourages healthy future beard growth
  • Softer and more supple beard
  • Protects your beard from split ends occurring, breakages and prevents itchiness
  • Acts to tame an unruly beard, helping it to become more manageable.
  • Gives a killer shine and a genuinely healthy looking beard (plus it keeps your skin fresh and in good shape too).

Regularly using beard oil, is basically the ‘key’ to maintaining a good beard and that’s why beard oil is your staple beard product, it will help your beard smell, feel and look its best: being the thing of envy amongst men and admiration amongst women.

It will keep it protected and just generally much easier to deal with in everyday life. Less irritable itching, less tangling and more manageable. Not to mention it also does wonders for your skin too (from softening your skin by hydrating it to anti-ageing properties and potentially treating spots).

Plus, it encourages healthy future beard growth as you are creating the perfect growing environment for your beard. Of course, you are also preventing your beard from getting rough, having issues with dandruff, irritation and just general itching as well.

Why Do you Consider these the ‘Best’ Beard Oils in the UK?

Like most things, beard oils certainly aren’t made equal. We only stock beard oils that contain all natural and ingredients with a high percentage (if not all being organic), the likes of Vitamin E, Argan oil, jojoba oil and so on - all high premium oils that pack a bunch of antioxidants - beard oils that will generally benefit your beard.

Plus, we have an eye for the little things too, vintage packaging, so it looks nice stored in your bathroom cabinet or on the work surface. The bottle is practical, so you will minimize spillage. We like to think of the details so you don’t have to, see we have all the beard oils you see here for sale, tested by real life beardsmen to give their seal of approval before selling to you.

Not only do we inspect what ingredients does it contain, but we want to get a feel for how the oil works on a beard as well - we look for lightweight oils that absorb nicely into the beard and doesn’t feel like it’s weighing down the beard and potentially clog up pores.

How to Use Beard Oil Properly?

With regards to how often you should be using it, it basically comes down to two main factors i) how big is your beard - a good rule of thumb is generally 1-2 to drops for every month worth of growth. If you are growing a beard from the brink I’d even recommend using it at the stubble stage, because first it will help reduce the ‘itchy beard phase’ plus it’s providing the perfect conditions for continued beard growth.

Beardless - Light Stubble 2 to 3 Drops Daily Usage
Heavy Stubble - Light Beard 4 to 6 Drops Daily Usage
Medium Beard - Heavy Beard 7 to 10 Drops Daily Usage
Heavy Beard to (365 days) Yeard 10 Drops Plus Daily Usage

The second factor is climate, in warmer conditions you're going to need more beard oil to keep your beard moist than when it’s tame. After a while though, you will get a good feel as to how much you need and when.

To make proper use of your beard oil it’s best used just after you’ve had a shower (perhaps you’ve just used some beard shampoo) and your beard is slightly moist and your skin pores are more receptive.

Literally, it’s a case of squirting a couple of drops into the palms of your hand and massaging thoroughly it into the beard. Then to make sure you are really getting the most out of it, we’d then definitely recommend following that up with a quality beard brush or a ‘proper’ beard comb this will not only making your beard much more manageable and give a neater look, but it will stimulate beard growth (particularly with the brush) as well as properly distribute the beard oil throughout your man scruff.

Which to choose?

With each oil you can see from our in-depth reviews (and checkout other beardsman’s feedback too) that we inspect each ingredient and you can easily see what each does for your beard.

It’s then basically a case of which one do you fancy, granted even amongst the best beard oils, some are better than others - but it does come down to preference too. Which scent are you after your beard smelling like? Like a proper woodsman or musky scent? See The Bearded Bastard. Perhaps a fruity? Brighton Beard Company have some great stuff in that range. Feel free to take a browse and like always if you’ve got any questions don’t be afraid to shoot them over.
